Jesus IS both God And Man!

This post is to clear up all the questions of whether or not Jesus was just a man, or whether He was both God and man.

First, let’s prove that Jesus was indeed God:

In the book of Exodus, we see this:
Exodus 3:4-14New International Version (NIV)

4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”

And Moses said, “Here I am.”

5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

7 The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 9 And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

12 And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”

13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”

14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

WE see very clearly that one of the many names of God is “I AM,

Now: this is important to remember as you will see here:

26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I AM he.”

Jesus claims the name of God right here-“I AM.

And, of course, we have this:

John 10:30New International Version (NIV)

30 I and the Father are one.”

Jesus claiming EQUALITY with God himself!

Then we have this:

John 6:35New International Version (NIV)

35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Again: we see Jesus claiming the name of God-I AM”.

and we have this:

41 At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”

Of course the Jewish leaders are grumbling. They recognized that Jesus is claiming the name of God.

and we have this:

48 I am the bread of life.

and this:

51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

and this:

Dispute Over Jesus’ Testimony
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

and this:

58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”

and this:

7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.

WE see here that Jesus is claiming equality with God.

And we have this:
John 15:4-6New International Version (NIV)

4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.

So let’s see what we have here:

Jesus, claiming the name of God how many times?

At least 15 times!

Now, we constantly seeing atheists saying-“Well, Jesus never asked anyone to worship him.”

That’s true-Jesus never did ASK anyone to worship Him.

BUT:

That doesn’t change the SCRIPTURAL FACT that Jesus WAS worshiped-on more that one occasion, as seen here:

33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Now why call Jesus the “SON OF GOD”?

These were Jews. Even the lowest of them knew that you could not see God directly, because you would die. Son of God refers to Jesus being God in human form.

Also:

being Jews, they were well aware that worshiping ANY MAN was blasphemy, and punishable by death. But they saw who Jesus WAS: God in human form, & they knew that He was.

Now let’s continue:

The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

and we have this:

51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

and this:
John 9:37-39New International Version (NIV)

37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”

38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.

39 Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”

Now, it should be noted that in every one of these instances, NEVER ONCE, did Jesus ask those worshiping Him to stop-NOT ONCE.

Why:

Because it was the right thing for each of these people to do.

And then, we have this issue:

4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?

17 Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax[a] to Caesar or not?”

18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19 Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, 20 and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”

21 “Caesar’s,” they replied.

Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

22 When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.

46 An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. 47 Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. 48 Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”

Now:

My question to you, is: If Jesus was strictly a MAN, how could he KNOW what was in the people hearts, or thoughts? Only God could KNOW THAT!

The Scriptural evidence CLEARLY shows that Christ Jesus was INDEED God in the Flesh.

Now comes the other issue that atheists like to use:

“Why did Jesus say that He could do nothing by His own power?”

To answer this, we have to look at all the Gospels as one single narrative-the story of Christ Jesus.

What were the 2 main titles that Jesus was called throughout the Gospels?

Teacher, as seen here:

The Cost of Following Jesus
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”

20 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

and Rabbi, as seen here:

4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.

5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)

What is the purpose of a Rabbi or teacher?

To teach.

And throughout the Gospels, that is exactly what Jesus did-teach men about God, & what God wanted OF men, especially here:
Matthew 5:15-17New International Version (NIV)

15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

The Fulfillment of the Law
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

and here:

44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?

3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

among others.

In all 4 of the Gospels-NEVER ONCE do we see Jesus saying this is what you need to do to please”ME”

All honor & Glory was directed to God the Father.

Jesus, God in human form, showed us how to deal with God-not Himself.

It was only AFTER He ascended to Heaven that the Apostles & Paul directed all glory & honor to Christ.

Because He was the only one worth of it.

No one else had ever died & resurrected themselves from the dead EXCEPT Christ, as seen here:

19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”

20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

Also, it has to be remembered, that while Jesus was God in the flesh, the flesh part of Him, still was subject to needs that all men have, like eating:

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness
4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

and thirst:

John 19:28-29New International Version (NIV)

28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.

Everything that we humans have to deal with in simple living, Jesus had to as well-otherwise He couldn’t relate TO man on such a personal level.

Was Jesus God and man?

Scripture CLEARLY shows that He was, especially in light of what we seen here:

Philippians 2:5-11New International Version (NIV)

5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Christ Jesus came to earth, grew up as a human being, not promoting Himself as God, but showing us how to please God.

Just a footnote here, to all atheists who will try to say-“well how can God die?”

When Jesus died on the cross, his PHYSICAL body died-NOT His divine nature.

His divine nature was what he used to resurrect His body.
